BRACKLESHAM BAY FESTIVAL OF FISH – 16TH & 17TH
OCTOBER, 2004
Just when you thought that your Koi
season had ended for another year another one pops up!!
The Laguna 5 Section Koi Festival is in
its second year and is to be held, once again, at New Horizon, South Downs
Holiday Village at Bracklesham Bay, near Chichester, Sussex. The Festival brings together a feast of fish
keeping experts in one place with specialists in every field of the hobby and
available to give help and advise on all aspects of the hobby – cold-water fish
including catfish, tropical and of course our particular interest – The Koi
Show.
Five BKKS Sections have again come
together in a head to head against each other to become the Laguna 5 Section
Champion, won last year by Terry & Lynn Wells of the South East Section
with their magnificent Sanke.
The five sections taking part this year
are:-
Worthing Section
South East Section
Middlesex & Surrey Borders Section
….and the newly invited Plymouth
Section
Tickets for the weekend are now sold
out but of course day visitors are welcome and there are a number of local
hotels if you want to stay and join in the festivities in the evening. This is not a show that you would normally
be used to, it’s more of a celebration of our hobby and whether your interests
are Koi, Goldfish, Tropical or even Marine then there will be somebody on hand
to give you advice.
The Lecture Theatre, on both days,
boasts a host of specialists in their individual field and is not to be missed!
The Five Sections all have their own
individual shows, whether they be ‘Closed’ or ‘Open’ and are affiliated to the
British Koi Keepers Society (BKKS).
Expertise, in plentiful supply, will be in the Koi Show Marquees and
will cover all aspects of our particular side of fish keeping.
South Hants will, again, be in charge
of benching, IT and water testing – they did a wonderful job last year. Worthing & the South East will look
after the general running of the show ring with water changes etc. Plymouth, our newest Section, will be
responsible for raffles etc and Middlesex & Surrey Borders will supply
& set up all the equipment.
Everyone mucks in at this event, is
very friendly, non-political and is a joy to be part of!
Judging will be carried out by a Panel
of BKKS Judges (Full and Trainee) and each Section will have 5 show vats each
and the show will be in a different format to normal with us only having 7 show
classes. These being:-
Kohaku
Sanke
Showa
Utsuri
(Shiro, Hi & Ki)
Gin Rin
Metallics (any
metallic koi in one group)
Non-Metallics
(any non-metallic koi in one group)
Basically any fish that is bought along
will be benched in one of the above classes.
Water purification will again be
provided by Anne Telford from Allclear and water will be heated and stored
undercover in heated marquees.
Each Section will have it’s own
champion as before and unique glass prizes will be provided by the sponsors.
So if you fancy a day or weekend out in
October I can promise you that you won’t be disappointed. It’s all undercover and heated with a
restaurant and bar…..oh and of course for the real hard core the beach is only
a mile away if you fancy a swim!!
